BOSTON, 28 Sep. 2023. Caresyntax, the leading vendor-neutral enterprise surgical data and intelligence platform designed to make surgery safer and smarter by converging AI-powered software, devices, and clinical services to help customers improve surgical outcomes, today announced that Bruce Ramshaw, MD, will become its Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO). Dr. Ramshaw is Co-Founder of CQInsights, Past President of the Americas Hernia Society, former Professor and Chair of Surgery at University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and has been a leader using clinical quality improvement and data science to lower costs and improve outcomes in the healthcare industry since 2010. He brings decades of proven experience with systems and data science, along with continuous improvement strategies to improve patient care, increase quality outcomes, and lower costs.

The addition of Dr. Ramshaw and CQInsights to the Caresyntax team enhances its portfolio of hospitals and clinical sites, published key opinion leader (KOL) investigators, and industry partners clinical datasets. Caresyntax’s existing worldwide network now includes 2,800+ operating rooms (ORs) and hundreds of active surgeons.

In his role as CMIO, Dr. Ramshaw will expand the utility of data science and continuous quality improvement methods by leveraging the Caresyntax surgical intelligence platform and will apply his proven methodologies to the worldwide network of Caresyntax collaborative hospitals and clinical sites. Dr. Ramshaw will work with clinical teams to implement a definable patient process, including what real-world data to collect in order to measure the value of care. This total value of care can be measured for any drug, device, or diagnostic tool, and can be used within the entire definable patient process.

“I’m pleased to welcome Bruce to Caresyntax. His presence will help our continued focus on outcome improvement and support our health systems to drive greater patient outcomes. Tightly managing clinical value with cost of delivery is critical. Bruce’s proven methodology and professional services unlocks this capability and Caresyntax can help scale it across health systems.” Dennis Kogan, CEO of Caresyntax

“I look forward to working with the Caresyntax team to leverage its surgical intelligence capability and data-driven approach to ideate solutions for customers, to optimize the value for their organizations, clinical teams, and most importantly, patients. Compared to large data sets that only capture data for a sub process (like central line infection), the ability to use longitudinal data across the entire patient cycle of care is much more meaningful and presents more actionable insights to improve outcomes for our industry and provider partners.” Bruce Ramshaw, MD, CMIO of Caresyntax

Dr. Ramshaw’s hire expands Caresyntax’s focus on data science to produce meaningful opportunities for industry partners, while further increasing value to clinical providers with Data-as-a-Service offerings for value analysis, product launch and adoption, and market access. Caresyntax’s focus will be on structured (curated) data that follows a patient longitudinally through their care pathway. This longitudinal data collection layers on top of a deep-data platform that collects a broad range of modalities including video and audio from the OR.

Medtech companies who work with Caresyntax will now enjoy access to a worldwide clinical pipeline of Caresyntax’s network of hospitals and KOLs, many of whom have already used CQI and OPSA (Objective, Procedure Specific Assessment), as well as the benefit of fully heterogenous patient populations across academic, national/federal, and rural hospital sites. With these data, industry partners can generate new and expanded indications for existing products; visualize quantifiable impact to patient cost and care for value-based assessments; and gain market segmentation, exploration, and discovery for new product development.

Clinicians and healthcare providers who work with Caresyntax will now get access to curated, cleansed data with continuous feedback loops to provide clinicians and hospital systems with meaningful insights to improve patient quality and outcomes, and also assess financial impact to their value-based initiatives. Using insights gained from these data, providers (and their respective societies) will have additional opportunities to update standards of care, based on meaningful real-world data from their own ORs.

About Caresyntax:

Caresyntax is on a mission to make surgery smarter and safer. Our vendor-neutral, enterprise surgical data platform delivers actionable insights to improve patient outcomes by using proprietary software and AI (Artificial Intelligence) to analyze large volumes of video, audio, images, device data, clinical, and operational data in and around the OR. This real-world evidence can be used by the care team live, during a procedure, and accessed by those outside the operating room via the platform’s dedicated telehealth link. After a procedure, the Caresyntax platform provides insights that help surgeons benchmark and improve their care, hospital administrators use surgical resources more efficiently, medical device companies advance better products, and insurance companies understand risk and devise more tailored policies. Headquartered in Berlin and Boston, Caresyntax platform is used in more than 2,800 operating rooms worldwide and supports surgical teams in over three million procedures per year.
